God is Here | Week 4 | August 30, 2026

What does it mean that Jesus is called the Lamb of God? That title is not random, and it is not merely poetic. It is the culmination of a thread woven through thousands of years of Scripture, and when we pull that thread, we find that the entire story of the Bible is really one story about a God who refuses to leave us covered in shame. We begin in Genesis 3, where Adam and Eve tried to cover themselves with fig leaves after their rebellion, only to find their efforts completely insufficient. God stepped in and provided a covering that required sacrifice. That moment is the seed of everything. From there we travel to Mount Moriah, where a ram caught in a thicket died in the place of a beloved son, giving us the concept of substitution. Then we arrive at Exodus 12, where the blood of a spotless lamb painted on a doorframe meant the difference between judgment and deliverance for an entire people. Each of these moments is a chapter in a single unfolding story, and John the Baptist brings that story to its climax when he looks up, sees Jesus walking toward him, and declares that the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world has arrived. This message invites us to trace that thread for ourselves, to see that what happened on the cross was not an accident or a tragedy, but the fulfillment of a plan God set in motion from the very beginning of human history.
